This is probably our most misinterpreted song released so far. And being our first single, gave me reason to explain it.
The simplicity in the lyrics is deliberate. It was intended to illustrate the simplicity in which we as humans, as a public, operate.
Each verse is structured with the beginning stating some of our 'humane' problems in the most basic light- highlighting their banality, and yet their gravity ie. Verse 1: religious beliefs, as the second half of each verse is humanity's response to these problems - i'll believe what i want, be fanatic over whatever i want so fuck you and live your life.
Verse 1: religious beliefs + other religious beliefs, often = disagreements = unacceptance Do we open our minds ? not all. Some steer away from others resulting in 'sides'.
The Choruses are then the result of the verses which is often in this country, a crowd walking through London chanting slogans and holding up banners. The Chorus was built from The 2003 war protest in London.- again - highlighting the banality and simplcity of the situation and the response. Not however, discreditting it necessarily, as in an ideal world, we as humans we just basque is simple pleasures. The Choruses Merely state that the big picture is that simple, but yet unattainable, as it is built up of millions of little pictures and billions of views.
The most sincere line in the song is the last line - we're too damn selfish.
Some fans understood that. some didnt.
